Research Results  on Waste Recycling

The Nordplus project “Circular economy” has brought together students from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania to participate for tracking waste for one week to raise awareness about sustainability. Before the project in Tallinn, all students filled in the table honestly for a week, which contains food leftovers, plastic, paper, glass, clothes and electronics. During the activity in Tallinn, we were Divided into groups with members from different Baltic countries and discussed the results. By comparing the tables, we noticed many similarities. For example, the sorted paper and plastic numbers were very alike and all Baltic countries sort bottles in special terminals, but there was very little electronic sorted. As a result, all of us had a great opportunity to rethink our actions.

The second day of the project "Nordplus". We were met by the Estonian project participants and taken to the gymnasium, showed us around the school. We learned the basics of "beatbox" and Estonian words. Estonian students led a tour of Tallinn's Old Town, we saw St. Olaf's Cathedral, Tallinn Town Hall Square, and the parliament. When we returned, we listened to presentations about sustainability, the ecology of their school, and tried out 3D printing. MORE

The third day of the project “Nordplus”: in the morning, we had a lesson on circular economy and waste recycling. After that, we visited the Ülemiste Water Treatment Plant to learn about how water is cleaned and managed. In the afternoon, we went on a tour to the Seaplane Harbour. MORE

The fourth day of the “Nordplus” project. In the morning, we took part in an eco-design challenge, where we designed a modern and sustainable school of the future. After that, we danced Estonian folk dances. Later, we had a history lesson and created infographics comparing the sustainable development of different countries. We ended the day with bowling. MORE
